This mid terrace Victorian period house in Stoke Newington, North east London has four bedrooms. There is a dining room, living room and kitchen at Ground level.
The brief was for a single storey rear kitchen extension to accommodate a modern open plan kitchen and Dining room looking onto the west facing garden. A full length minimal structural glass roof lantern was proposed on top of a flat roof. The client originally wanted a pitched glass roof but due to the stepped ground level and the planners insistence that the boundary fence walls should be the same height this would have meant an asymmetric gable on the rear elevation. The proposed flat roof and glass lantern is the least fussy design. The client, a designer, was keen for the extension design to be a calm and simple addition to the existing house.
This project is yet to receive planning permission from the London Borough of Hackney
