This mid terrace Victorian period house in Crofton Park, south east London has three bedrooms at first floor level and a small bathroom. There is a dining room, living room and kitchen at Ground level.
The brief was for a single storey rear extension to accommodate a modern open plan kitchen, dining and living room adjacent to the west facing garden. Large rooflight’s were designed to give lots of natural light into the kitchen. Similarly large bi-folding door were designed to bring in lots of natural light into the dining and living space as well as opening up the view into the garden and vice versa.
The kitchen was moved into the old dining room thereby opening up an in-between space to the garden for the dining and living room. The pitched roof design brings a larger more grandiose interior than what a flat roof/ ceiling would have done and was preferred by the client.
The benefits of nice views and natural light were key to this project. Whilst not particularly extraordinary this design is a good addition to the existing house and reflects the clients requirements.
